Retail Shopfront Transformation

Retail Shopfront Transformation project by Painters of Geelong

Geelong Fresh Market, a well-loved local grocery and specialty food store on Moorabool Street, was losing foot traffic despite offering excellent products. The owners recognised that their tired, faded shopfront was failing to attract passing customers, and the interior had become equally uninspiring. They needed a comprehensive painting refresh that would revitalise their brand presence without closing the store during business hours.

Our commercial team specialises in retail transformations that work around business operations. We developed a detailed execution plan that split the project into exterior daytime work (when the store was closed) and interior after-hours painting, ensuring the store never missed a day of trading.

Problem

The shopfront's exterior paint had faded dramatically from sun exposure, with the once-vibrant green now looking washed out and tired. The window frames were peeling, and the entrance area looked neglected compared to neighbouring businesses that had recently been refreshed. Inside, the walls were scuffed from shelving units and product displays, and the original off-white colour scheme did nothing to showcase the colourful produce and products. Customer surveys indicated that the store's appearance was deterring new customers from entering.

Solution

We designed a two-phase painting plan that would transform both the exterior and interior of the store while keeping the business running smoothly throughout the entire process.

  1. Pressure-washed the exterior shopfront to remove grime, old signage residue, and loose paint
  2. Sanded and primed all exterior surfaces including the metal fascia, timber window frames, and rendered entrance walls
  3. Applied two coats of high-durability exterior paint in the store's refreshed brand colours — a deep forest green fascia with cream trim details
  4. Worked after hours each evening for four nights to repaint the interior, starting with ceiling and working down to walls
  5. Created warm terracotta accent walls in the fresh produce section and a clean sage green in the deli area to complement the food displays
  6. Finished all back-of-house areas in washable, food-safe white satin for compliance and cleanliness
Refreshed retail interior with feature colours

The interior feature colours create distinct zones that enhance the shopping experience and showcase products beautifully.

The results spoke for themselves — the owners reported a noticeable increase in foot traffic within the first week after the transformation was complete. The refreshed exterior now stands out on the busy Moorabool Street strip, and customers have commented on how much more inviting the store feels inside. The colour-coded zones help guide shoppers through the store naturally, and the fresh, clean appearance reinforces the quality and freshness of the products on offer. The entire project was completed without a single day of lost trading.
