Weatherboard Revival Project

Weatherboard Revival Project by Painters of Geelong

The Mitchell family had recently purchased a charming but severely neglected weatherboard home on Autumn Street in Belmont. The property had incredible potential, but years of deferred maintenance had left the exterior in poor condition. They needed a team that could not only repaint the home but also address the underlying timber issues to ensure a lasting result.

Our exterior painting specialists conducted a thorough assessment of the property and developed a staged approach that would tackle the structural timber issues first before moving on to the cosmetic transformation. The Mitchells chose a beautiful coastal colour palette that would give their new home a fresh, contemporary feel while complementing the established streetscape.

Problem

The exterior was in severe disrepair. Paint was peeling across every elevation, with large sections completely bare and exposed to the elements. Black mould had colonised the south-facing walls, and several weatherboards along the base of the home had rotted through from ground moisture. The window frames were cracked and dry, the fascia boards were warped, and the overall appearance was bringing down the street's aesthetic. The Mitchells were keen to restore the home before moving in.

Solution

We implemented a comprehensive restoration plan that addressed every issue systematically, ensuring the finished result would not only look beautiful but would stand up to Geelong's variable weather for years to come.

  1. Pressure-washed the entire exterior to remove years of accumulated grime, mould, and flaking paint
  2. Treated all mould-affected areas with a commercial-grade fungicidal wash and allowed to dry thoroughly
  3. Replaced 14 rotted weatherboards with new timber, primed and sealed before installation
  4. Scraped and sanded all remaining surfaces to create a smooth, paint-ready substrate
  5. Applied a premium exterior primer across all surfaces, followed by two coats of Dulux Weathershield in a soft sage green body colour
  6. Painted all trims, window frames, fascias, and downpipes in crisp white, with the front door finished in a deep navy accent
Restored weatherboard home exterior

The completed weatherboard revival showcases the stunning coastal colour palette and meticulous timber restoration.

The transformation was nothing short of dramatic. What was once an eyesore on the street became its standout property. The Mitchell family were overjoyed with the result, and neighbours have since approached us for quotes on their own homes after seeing the finished product. The combination of proper timber restoration and a premium paint system means this home is now fully protected against the elements, and the coastal palette gives it a timeless appeal that will look fresh for many years.
